Valerie Halpin, MD

Valerie Halpin is a native Northwesterner and grew up in the desert of Eastern Washington.  There she developed a love for waterskiing and downhill skiing that she continues to enjoy here in Portland on the Willamette River and up at Mt Hood.  She works hard at work life balance!
She did her medical and surgical training in St. Louis, Missouri at Washington University which included a research fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery.  She is a full time bariatric surgeon at Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital.  She is currently fellowship program director of the Legacy Bariatric Surgery Fellowship Program and medical director of the Legacy Weight and Diabetes Institute.
Valerie has a strong commitment to community service and enjoys the work done in collaboration with FSIE in advancing the field of gastrointestinal surgery.  She has been with FSIE since 2010. In addition, Valerie volunteers locally with Big Brothers Big Sisters and is on the board of Self Enhancement, Inc., a non-profit organization in Portland that focuses on youth development.
