Ahmed Sharata, MD
FSIE Laboratory Coordinator
Ahmed Sharata MD was born and raised in Libya. After graduating from the University of Tripoli, Dr. Sharata earned his medical degree from University of Tripoli Faculty of Medicine. He completed his residency in general surgery at Tripoli Central Hospital where he honored International Scholarship for high medical education and training. He now resides in Portland OR since 2008. Dr Sharata joined FSIE as a post-graduate research intern 2011 and was quickly promoted to clinical research fellow with an emphasis in advanced endoscopic surgery. His research interests include diseases of the foregut, surgical instrument innovation, endolumenal therapies and surgical education. During his time with FSIE, Dr. Sharata has been incredibly productive including authoring more than 25 peer-reviewed publications and numerous book chapters. He has built a strong reputation during his numerous national and international presentations at surgical society meetings. Currently, Dr. Sharata serves as FSIE Lab Coordinator and is an active proctor for numerous national and regional healthcare facilities helping surgeons develop local POEM programs. In his free time, Dr Sharata recently took up skydiving.
