12 New Esophageal Specialists Learn POEM at FSIE Course

4/28/2017

This week FSIE held its 14th 2 day hands-on POEM course since 2012. The POEM course is a unique, quality educational experience designed to provide Esophageal Specialists from general surgery, thoracic surgery and gastroenterology with intensive training in the per-oral esophageal myotomy (POEM) technique. This high impact course includes didactic lectures, explant and live animal techniques laboratories, endoscopic suturing break-out session, impedance planimetry (ENDOFLIP) instruction and observation of live cases. The course is limited to ensure intimate one on one training with our experts and ample time for hands on instruction.

Per-oral Endoscopic Myotomy (POEM) is currently poised to replace traditional esophageal myotomy as the surgical treatment of choice for achalasia. The POEM techniques can also be applied to ESD, per-oral pyloromyotomy, endoscopic crico-myotomy and endoscopic GI mass resection.
