Surgical Internships

Picture
In proud partnership with Providence Portland Medical Center, FSIE has an active mentorship program with internships aimed at providing aspiring students various opportunities to explore the field of surgery. Investment in upcoming generations is imperative for the future of surgical intervention. FSIE is committed to inspiring young minds not only to enter the field of surgery but also to envision a future where “surgery” is performed in an entirely new way. Over the past few decades the world has seen dramatic advancements in surgical technique moving from the large, painful incisions of traditional surgery to tiny incisions used for laparoscopy (aka key-hole surgery).  But laparoscopy is just the beginning!

In addition to pioneering advanced laparoscopic techniques, FSIE is a world leader in the field of flexible endoscopic surgery performing surgical procedures without any incisions at all. We need bright fresh minds to continue this work into the future.

If you can imagine it, it can happen.

“My time at the foundation as an undergraduate was invaluable. I was exposed to surgical medicine in the clinical setting as well as in the operating room, and I had the opportunity to participate in real life biomedical investigations. I was even able to travel to Utah to present original research at SAGES, a major medical conference. The foundation is made up of physicians that truly enjoy teaching and passing the love of learning onto the next generation.”
–BEN ROBINSON, 3-YEAR UNDERGRADUATE INTERN

The B.E.S.T. program was created by IRCAD, a non-profit organization dedicated to students and young professionals in the medical field with an interest in Minimally Invasive Surgical Strategies (MISS). Our objective is to educate our audience in MISS, regardless of their professional background, to make this training appealing, and to spur surgical innovation. Education is provided through the Business Engineering and Surgical Technologies (B.E.S.T) education program, using the web and courses presented in partnership with the IRCAD and IHU in Strasbourg, France.
